The Taylor County courthouse was built in 1935 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Butler was named for General William Orlando Butler, a distinguished hero of the Mexican War. The Crackerland Country Fair is held in the community of Howard each April. Gordon and the site of Fort Lawrence, which was established by Colonel Benjamin Hawkins, for whom Hawkinsville was named. Points of interest in Taylor County include: Beechwood Farm, the home of Confederate General John B. The road was part of the stage highway from Richmond to New Orleans. The Wire Road, which ran through Taylor County, was named for the telegraph wire that stretched along it. Office employees are not permitted to make searches. To access the LANDEX system click here: LANDEX General information can be obtained by phone but for more detailed information you should come into the office, retain a title searcher or attorney, or access the LANDEX system to search records online (there is a fee associated with this service) from 1684 to present. This means anyone can come in and look at any deeds or mortgages. All papers recorded in the office are public information, with the exception of military discharge papers. ![]()
